CIIE offers chance to experience self-driving vehicles
Visitors can experience self-driving cars and new-energy vehicles at the Auto Innovation Technology and Autonomous Driving Experience Zone at the second China International Import Expo.
The experience zone, covering about 16,200 square meters, displays the latest technologies including autonomous driving, fuel-cell vehicles, high-performance cars and vehicles integrated with 5G technology.
A total of 12 vehicles from auto companies such as Toyota, Ford and Hyundai are now running tests in the experience zone in order to prepare for visitors during the CIIE from November 5 to 10.
The experience zone aims to provide a chance for visitors to learn first-hand about the newest car models and technologies in the field of autonomous driving, as well as promote these latest advances and their application.
Integration between vehicle and 5G technology is highlighted in the experience zone. A self-driving vehicle in the outdoor area can be remotely controlled by people in the exhibition hall of the CIIE through 5G.
The zone consists of testing scenarios including crossroads, speed-limit driving, S-curves, turning and other maneuvers. There are intelligent traffic control signal systems as well as vehicle and pedestrian detection systems at simulated crossroads.
Visitors will experience the application of future transportation technologies during test rides. A staff member will remain in the driver's seat in case of emergency, while another staff member will explain the self-driving vehicles and their functions.
