The Shanghai Stock Exchange will extend its trading halt until February 3 due to the ongoing coronavirus epidemic, according to a statement released by the exchange late Monday.

Previously, the bourse was scheduled to resume trading on January 31 after the Spring Festival holiday.

The decision was approved by the China Securities Regulatory Commission and based on the State Council’s recent move to extend the holiday as a precaution against the spreading contagion.

The Shenzhen Stock Exchange has also adjusted its schedule and will resume trading on February 3.

The two bourses suggest that investors pay close attention to statements from listed firms, fund management companies and futures businesses.
