5G applications have been deployed in industrial manufacturing processes and supply chains, improving work efficiency and making them more intelligent, Shanghai Daily learned during the ongoing 22nd China International Industry Fair or CIIF2020.

With the high speed and low latency of the 5G network, 5G applications are widely used in manufacturing, logistics, warehousing and other sectors, Shanghai Daily learned.

In Shanghai, China Telecom is pushing up 5G deployment in 845 projects, covering smart industrial, intelligent cities, smart communities and smart homes, the carrier said.

On its booth, Shanghai Telecom displayed a latest application with Baosteel, China’s biggest steelmaker, on a 5G-featured automated guided vehicle (AGV). With seven indoor 5G base stations and an AGV device with navigation, Shanghai Telecom helps Baosteel establish a small-scale smart logistics system which helps it cut labor costs and allows the system to work 24 hours a day.

China has become the world’s biggest 5G market with smartphone users and device bases. 5G devices and services have become catalysts and growth engines in the face of challenges posed by the pandemic, covering digital consumption and industrial applications, analysts said.

The 5G applications are also used in industrial robots and autonomous driving, which require low latency and high precision, firms said.
