Free online courses for Shanghai students are being offered by Tomorrow Advancing Life, or TAL, during the epidemic of novel coronavirus pneumonia.

They cover lessons for primary and middle school students in math, Chinese, English, programming, physics, chemistry, biology and science. The classes are offered by Xueersi of TAL, a New York-listed online education firm.

The teachers are experienced local teachers familiar with Shanghai’s education system. The course are mainly to help students review and strengthen knowledge already taught, according to TAL.

Other companies, schools and TV stations have also launched free courses to students, including a subsidiary of CCTV. The courses include art, sports and psychology.

By last week, the Chinese government had organized 22 online platforms to offer 24,000 free online courses to help students and adults review and learn at home during the outbreak.
