“From In,” a contemporary dance performance by Xie Xin Dance Theater, will be staged during the biennale.

The China Contemporary Dance Biennale opened yesterday at Shanghai International Dance Center. 

A gathering dedicated to exploring and promoting contemporary dance in China, the biennale is sponsored by the Chinese Dancers Association and Shanghai International Dance Center Development Foundation, organized by Shanghai International Dance Center Theater and Young Artists Platform of Dance, with special support from Dance College of Shanghai Theatre Academy and Liu Haisu Art Museum. 

Domestic and international producers and artistic directors of dance festivals from countries including Great Britain, Israel and Romania gathered to celebrate the opening of the event.

The next five days will see six contemporary dance performances, lectures, dance workshops and other activities such as “Vanguard Body” presented by the Xie Xin Dance Theater. 

Feng Shuangbai, chairman of China Dancers Association, addressed the ceremony hoping that the biennale would demonstrate the excellence of Chinese contemporary dance, and the world would be able to see the best young artists and understand the creativity and liveliness of contemporary dance in China.

Ma Chencheng, president of SMG Performing Arts Group, said that in the coming days, through the biennial, the audience would learn about the status of contemporary dance in China.
