Latvian operatic soprano Kristine Opolais is making her Chinese debut at the beginning of 2020, presenting her signature classics for Shanghai audiences, together with compatriot pianist Agnese Eglina. 

Opolais has a firmly established reputation as one of the world’s pre-eminent singing actresses, combining lustrous tone and fierce dramatic intensity. The 40-year-old is known for her collaborations with the Metropolitan Opera, singing in “La Boheme,” “Madama Butterfly,” and the new productions of “Manon Lescaut” and “Rusalka.”

She also appears on prestigious stages like the Metropolitan Opera New York, Wiener Staatsoper, Deutsche Staatsoper Berlin, Bayerische Staatsoper, Teatro alla Scala, Opernhaus Zürich and the Royal Opera House Covent Garden.

Opolais’ vocal recital in Shanghai will start with Verdi’s “Willow Song & Ave Maria.” It will be followed by Eglina’s demonstration of Tchaikovsky’s “April: Hepatica,” “Ja li v pole da ne travushka byla” and “Wild Nights” as well as Rachmaninov’s “Direnj” and “Prelude in G minor.”

In the second half of the recital, Opolais will present a series of classics like Dvoak’s “Song to Moon,” Puccini’s “La Rondine,” “Gianni Schicchi” and “Madama Butterfly.”

In between, Eglina will perform solo pieces like Alberto Ginastera’s "Danzas Argentinas" and Janis Medins’ “Festivity of Blossoms.”

In harmonious cooperation, the two female artists will unfold a Neoclassical pastoral painting for Shanghai audiences during the two-hour performance.
