Diverse cultural and interactive programs have been lined up at the Century Link Mall this month to celebrate the coming Christmas and new year.

Visitors can see a special Paddington Bear exhibition, a close-up magic and percussion performance, a balloon show and some immersive theater.

The mall’s Lane 1192, a street of distinctive local delicacies, will also host a nostalgic bomber jacket exhibition and a party featuring traditional costumes and accessories.

On New Year’s Eve, veteran DJs and musicians have been invited to a party in collaboration with KFM981, where the most popular songs of the year will be announced and performed for the city’s music lovers.

Over the past year, a variety of cultural events at the Century Link Mall have been hailed by visitors. Among the events held at the mall was an exhibition of UglyDolls, the main characters in a popular animated adventure comedy movie, and “Heavy Blue,” an interactive exhibition using 3D, VR and AR technologies to show the marine environment.

But to celebrate the wondrous festive season, the Shanghai EDITION, a luxury hotel in the Bund area, is unveiling a calendar of indulgent festivities, integrated with arts, culinary offerings and entertainment.

Emerging contemporary artist Huang Yanyan has been invited to create an original, avant-garde Christmas tree. It takes inspiration from Huang’s famous “Knowing Seasons” series exhibited at the Frieze New York, in the United States.

Printed silk drapes, an icon of the artist’s work, covers the Christmas tree, complete with decorative lighting ornaments and an elegant silk-wrapped tree topper. Each segment of the silk features her dynamic, calligraphy-like painting style — a striking design illustrated by the vibrant contrast of bold brushstrokes against the delicate silk.

Huang studied art in the US. Her works exhibit a distinctive East-meets-West flair, blending culture and history in colorful, expressive compositions.

Through December 18, Michelin-starred chef Jason Atherton will also present his culinary magic with a three-day “World Gourmet Tour.” Atherton’s curated dining journey draws inspiration from his renowned overseas restaurants.

New seasonal festive menus will also be offered at Shanghai EDITION to complete the Christmas and New Year holidays with scrumptious treats.

On New Year’s Eve, guests will be able to celebrate and welcome the year of 2020 with countdown parties.
