Exclusive tour for expatriates in Shanghai
Shanghai's tourism authorities hosted an experience tour for expatriates in Shanghai on Sunday, inviting about 50 foreigners to visit several landmark historical and cultural spots in the city.
Eleven families from the United States, the United Kingdom and South Korea who live in Huacao Town, Minhang District, visited Shanghai Tower and Shanghai Jewish Refugees Museum at the former site of "Ohel Moshe Synagogue" and had a night cruise tour on Huangpu River.
Called "Tour for Experiencing Shanghai’s Splendor - Historical and Cultural Tourism Promotion Day for International Families," they were taken by a double-decker bus to see the sights.
The initiative is the latest effort by Shanghai Tourism Administration to enable foreigners to experience the charm of Shanghai's historical and cultural tourism. Similar events will be held in the future, the administration said.
"Even though I have extensively toured Shanghai in the more than three years that I've lived here, I have not had the opportunity to visit the Jewish Refugees Heritage Museum," said Nicole Stewart from the United States.
"So I am excited to learn more about this chapter of Shanghai history today by visiting the museum with my family," she said.
"Shanghai has always been welcoming to my family. It is empowering to know that these Jewish families were accepted in Shanghai and the city gave them safe harbor when they needed it the most."
