Shanghai Mayor Ying Yong met separately yesterday with Madeline Albright, former US Secretary of State and currently chairman of Albright Stonebridge Group, and Peter Wennink, chairman and chief executive officer of ASML, a leading company in lithography industry based in the Netherlands.

When meeting with Albright, Ying said that Sino-US relationship is one of the most important bilateral relationships in the world, and a strong, stable economic and trade relationship between China and the US will benefit both sides and lead to a win-win result.

Albright expressed her congratulations upon the successful conclusion of the 1st China International Import Expo. She hoped US and Chinese governments and business circles can make further communication and dialogue, enhancing mutual understanding and pushing forward active development in their economic and trade relationship.

Reform and opening-up is a basic policy of China, and President Xi Jinping announced new measures to further expanding opening-up, Ying added.

Ying told Wennink that the 1st China International Import Expo, held in Shanghai from November 5 to 10, is China’s major step to open its markets to the world. The city welcomes companies from all around the world, including ASML, to invest in Shanghai and strengthen cooperation with local companies.

As a leading supplier of computer chips in the world, ASML started its business in Shanghai and has established cooperative relationship with many institutions and enterprises in Shanghai. ASML hopes to further strengthen cooperation for mutual development in the future, said Wennink.
