Jinshan firefighters put out an 18-ton tanker loaded with liquified fatty alcohol that burst into flames on Saturday morning.

The fire began in the engine of the truck around 8:40am on Haijin Road. By the time firefighters arrived, the fire had already consumed the whole driver's cab and was spreading to the tank.

It took them more than 20 minutes to put out the fire. The tank remained intact and no one was injured.

The fire department said if the load was ignited, it could have led to a "huge disaster."

According to the driver, he found the wagon wouldn’t move when he stepped on the accelerator. He got out to check the problem, only to find there was fire coming from the engine. He tried to put it out with an extinguisher but failed.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation, officials said. They also urged drivers to manage the condition of their cars and get maintenance done regularly.
