Shanghai Mayor Ying Yong met Spain’s Ambassador to China Rafael Dezcallar de Mazarredo in Shanghai yesterday.

Talking about cities in the two countries, Ying said that Shanghai and Barcelona have had close exchanges and fruitful achievements since establishing friendly city ties in 2001.

Shanghai has just hosted the 2nd China International Import Expo, and the number of Spanish exhibitors, their exhibition area and trade volume all saw an increase over last year, he revealed.

“We welcome more enterprises from Spain to develop in Shanghai, especially in the areas of economy, trade, harbor, tourism and environmental protection, and we will provide better trade and business environment for them,” the mayor stated.

Speaking in his turn, Dezcallar said that Shanghai boasts an excellent business environment, and Spanish enterprises are willing to expand investment in the city. Spain also welcomes Shanghai enterprises to develop in the country, he added.

Carmen Fontes, consul general of Spain in Shanghai, also attended the meeting.
