Shanghai Party Secretary Li Qiang met Nayib Armando Bukele Ortez, the president of El Salvador, yesterday.

Li warmly welcomed Nayib Bukele on behalf of the CPC Shanghai Committee and the Shanghai municipal government. Bukele’s visit to China, at the invitation of President Xi Jinping, will raise the relation between the two countries to a new level, he added.

Shanghai is willing to strengthen cooperation and understanding with El Salvador and deepen collaboration on economy, trade, education, culture and other areas. “We welcome the introduction of more products from El Salvador to the Chinese market so that the two countries can share opportunities for development,” Li stated.

Bukele was impressed by China’s development achievements and the warm welcome by the Chinese people. He said that El Salvador is dedicated to promoting long-term friendly relationship with China and adheres to the one-China principle.

He hoped to learn from the urban government experience of Shanghai and further enhance economic and trade cooperation with the city via the China International Import Expo.
