A senior care center for the Yangtze River Delta region was established in Shanghai on Friday.
The region has more than 7,800 senior homes with over 1.3 million beds. The center will conduct policy research, exchanges and new projects, Shanghai Civil Affairs Bureau said.
Shanghai's senior population is around 5 million, close to 35 percent of permanent residents, among them, 820,000 are 80 or older.
Civil affairs authorities in Shanghai, and Jiangsu, Zhejiang and Anhui provinces are promoting the integration of senior services and drafting a three-year action plan.
