Metro passengers will be able to scan a QR code on the Metro Daduhui app from Wednesday, to pay their fare in 10 cities in the Yangtze River Delta, said Shanghai Shentong Metro Group.

Shanghai, Hangzhou and Ningbo were the first three cities in the region to adopt the method in December last year

Shengtong Metro said more than 3 million people had used the QR code to travel on different cities' metro trains.

On Tuesday, Christmas Eve, extra trains will be added on Lines 4, 6, 7, 9 and 13 from 5pm to 8pm.

On December 31, extra trains will be added on Lines 4, 6, 9, 11, 12 and 13 during the same period.
