Shanghai courts have cooperated with mediation organizations in the local judicial system, banking and security industries as well as more than 6,400 people's intercession organizations to better handle civil and commercial disputes, the Shanghai High People's Court said on Monday.

At a press conference on the local courts' achievements in improving the city's commercial environment, the higher court reported that local courts' litigation-mediation centers had accepted half of the civil and commercial disputes of first instance with more than a third of them settled through mediation.

Meanwhile, local courts are also solving bankruptcy cases and clearing zombie enterprises from the market. Last year, Shanghai courts accepted 750 bankruptcy cases, more than 80 percent higher than in 2018.

The higher court handled 735,000 contrast disputes over the past two years and punished those who violated contracts and committed fraud.

The higher court also issued a special plan for local courts' campaign on commercial environment improvement.
