5 new imported COVID-19 cases reported in city

Five more imported cases of novel coronavirus were reported in the city on Tuesday, bringing the total number of such infections to 204, said the Shanghai Health Commission on Wednesday morning.

All the patients are Chinese — two working in Russia, two studying in the UK and one traveling in Japan.

They have been transferred to the designated hospital and their 52 close contacts on the planes have been tracked and put under quarantine and medical observation.

Meanwhile, 17 imported cases — five from the UK, two from Italy, one from France, four from the US, one from Germany, one From Canada, one from Spain, one from Indonesia and one from Cambodia — were discharged from hospital upon recovery on Tuesday. One patient had been seriously sick and was finally cured by local doctors, the commission said.

So far, of all the 204 imported cases, 78 have been discharged upon recovery and 126 are hospitalized, including one in critical condition.

Another 16 suspected imported cases are undergoing test.

No new locally transmitted cases or suspected cases were reported on Tuesday. There was one new death among local patients. 

The 83-year-old man with a history of cardio-cerebral vascular disease was confirmed as a serious patient upon arrival at hospital and the condition kept worse. He was treated with CRRT (continuous renal replacement therapy) and ECMO (extra-corporeal membrane oxygenation) and declared death on Tuesday.

Among the 339 local cases, 328 have been discharged upon recovery and four are hospitalized, all in critical condition. There have been altogether seven local fatalities.

No asymptomatic infection cases are undergoing medical observation right now, the health commission said.
