A total of 11 new imported cases of novel coronavirus were reported in the city on Sunday, making the number of such infections hit 279, said the Shanghai Health Commission on Monday morning.

Among the new cases, nine are Chinese taking on the same flight from Russia.

The 10th patient is a Chinese working in the US and the 11th is a Chinese studying in the UK.

Another 36 imported suspected cases are undergoing test.

Fifty-one people on the same flight have been confirmed infection on the previous day. The plane arrived at the Shanghai Pudong International Airport on Friday and 80 passengers on the flight were sent to hospitals for showing symptoms upon arrival.

All the 11 new cases have been transferred to the designated hospital for quarantine and treatment. Their 90 close contacts on the same flight have been tracked down and put under quarantine and observation, the health commission said.

Meanwhile, eight imported cases — three from Italy, two from Spain, two from the UK and one from the US — were discharged from hospital upon recovery on Sunday.

So far, of all the 279 imported cases, 118 have been discharged upon recovery and 161 are hospitalized, including one in critical condition.

No new locally transmitted cases or suspected cases were reported on Sunday.

Among the 339 local cases, 328 have been discharged upon recovery and four are hospitalized, including one seriously sick and one in critical condition. There have been so far seven local fatalities.

No asymptomatic infection cases are undergoing medical observation right now, the health commission said.
