Traditional Chinese medicine therapies, plus professional rehabilitation, may ease symptoms in patients with degenerative diseases of the nervous system.

Doctors at Ren'ai Hospital designed an individualized therapy with acupuncture, herbal soup and professional rehabilitation training for an elderly patient with multiple system atrophy, or MSA, a progressive degenerative condition. The patient's symptoms improved over a year of treatment.

MSA is a rare disease with an incidence of 0.6 among every 100,000 people. MSA patients will need support in walking, using a wheelchair and staying in bed. There is no effective cure for the condition.
