Fifteen cultural and tourism business investment projects for Zhenjiang City in neighboring Jiangsu Province, were signed in Shanghai over the weekend.

Local authorities are promoting the city's culture and tourism in Shanghai to deepen cooperation between the two cities and revitalise business.

With a total investment of more than 1.7 billion yuan (US$240 million), the projects include the Maoshan Lake luxury resort project, the aviation town cultural and innovation industry park of Zhenjiang New District, the Heyuan minsu (Chinese version of B&B) cultural and innovation pavilion and the Jiankang Road sports park fitness club, the Zhenjiang City government announced in Shanghai.

The performance complex in the Xinhu area of Zhenjiang New District and Jinzhou agricultural and tourism industry park are also on the list. A cooperation agreement between local authorities and the Shanghai Railway International Travel Agency involves the organization of Shanghai tours to Zhenjiang.

Officials and enterprise representatives of Zhenjiang and Shanghai sign off on cultural and tourism business investment projects.

During the event, tourism incentives targeting travel agencies and ticket discount policies for some tourist attractions in Zhenjiang were released.

Tourist attractions such as Maoshan Mount, considered  an important holy place in Taoism; Jinshan Mount, known for the "The Legend of the White Snake," Beigu Mount and Xijindu ancient street, were promoted during the event, together with local delicacies such as Dongxiang mutton, Maoshan goose, crab, vinegar beverages and Danyang yellow wine.

Zhenjiang has a history of more than 3,000 years and is an important birthplace of Wu culture.

Shanghai is one of the most important sources of tourism for Zhenjiang and as such it will provide the best platform, policies and services for investors and tourists from Shanghai,  said Pan Zaoyun, vice mayor of Zhenjiang.

Shanghai and Zhenjiang have a long history of cultural and tourism cooperation, and further potential under the accelerated integration of the Yangtze River Delta region, said Zhang Qi, deputy director of the Shanghai Administration of Culture and Tourism.

"Zhenjiang has become one of the most popular tourism destinations for Shanghai residents with rich and unique tourism resources, a long history, as well as mouth watering delicacies and glamorous activities," said Zhang.
