'The Thunder' named Best Chinese TV Series

The crew of "The Thunder," which was named Best Chinese TV Series on Friday night. 

Anti-drug series “The Thunder” was named Best Chinese TV Series at the conclusion of the 26th Shanghai TV Festival on Friday night. 

The series impressed the jury for its depiction of the bravery of China's anti-drug police and the fearlessness of the nation when faced with difficulties. 

Produced by iQiyi, it was the festival’s first award-winning series to have its premiere on the online platform.

American production “Catch-22” received the Best Foreign TV Film/Miniseries award while Italian production “My Brilliant Friend: The Story of a New Name” was named Best Foreign TV Series/Serial.

Chinese productions “The Longest Day in Chang'an” and “All Is Well” received the International Communication Award for their popularity and influence overseas.

Actress Liu Tao was named promotion ambassador for Chinese TV drama.

“I will keep telling good Chinese stories on the screen,” said Liu. “I hope more and more foreign viewers will be attracted to the brilliant Chinese culture.”

Chen Baoguo was named Best Actor in a Leading Role for his vivid depiction of a patriotic tavern runner in “The Legendary Tavern.”

Yan Ni took the award for Best Actress in a Leading Role for her portrayal as a “tiger mom” in “Growing Pains.”

Wang Jun won the Best Director award for “A Little Reunion,” a realistic family drama about parental relationships. 

“Good stories are inspired by life,” said Wang. “No matter how much imagination and passion he or she has, a director should adhere to the logic of life.”

Tao Hong received the award for Best Actress in a Supporting Role for her depiction of an anxious mother in “A Little Reunion.”

Tian Yu scooped the award for Best Actor in a Supporting Role for his role in costume drama “Qing Yu Nian.”

Chen Yuxin, Li Li and Qin Yue, scriptwriters of “The Thunder,” shared the Best Original Screenplay award.

German production “Terra X — Anthropocene — The Rise of Humans” was named Best Documentary Series while Chinese production “Warm Current” won the Best Documentary award.

Best Animation award went to “Shooom’s Odyssey,” a French-Belgian co-production. 

“Dance Smash” and “China in the Stories” shared the Best Variety Program award.
