District official in call to stop food waste

As China is fighting food waste and fostering an attitude that stigmatizes wasteful practices, Jiading government held a meeting to call for saving food and preventing waste last month.

Gu Huiwen, director of Jiading’s publicity department, called for raising awareness of the need to stop wasting food.

Posters and advertisements have been set up at Metro stations, parks and scenic areas, and volunteers and social organizations are encouraged to promote the policy.

The media and government will monitor “clean-plate” dining habits. Jiading plans 10 activities on the theme for residents, especially students.

Some restaurants have begun to provide food in smaller portions and encourage diners to take away leftovers.
