China's Hubei reports 2,420 new coronavirus cases

Hubei Province, center of the novel coronavirus outbreak, reported 2,420 new confirmed cases and 139 new deaths on Friday, according to the provincial health commission on Saturday.

The number of new cases included 1,138 clinically diagnosed cases, which have been seen as confirmed cases. The new deaths also included 34 who were clinically diagnosed.

The latest report brought the total confirmed cases in the hard-hit province to 54,406.

Wuhan, the provincial capital, recorded a total of 37,914 confirmed cases, including 14,953 clinically diagnosed ones.

The province also saw 912 patients discharged from hospital after recovery on Friday, including 263 clinically diagnosed cases.

The commission said Hubei had 5,534 suspected cases, after 1,702 suspected cases were ruled out on Thursday.

Among the 38,107 hospitalized patients, 8,276 were still in severe condition and another 1,876 in critical condition.

To ensure timely treatment for more patients and further curb the spread of the virus, Hubei regards those with pneumonia-related computerized tomography scan results but not yet tested positive for the virus as confirmed cases.
