Patient in viral sunset photo plays violin to send off Shanghai medics
A patient plays the violin to express his gratitude to doctors and nurses from Shanghai.
An elderly patient who was photographed watching a sunset from his hospital bed with his doctor standing by his side in Wuhan sent off the Shanghai medics who treated him with a special violin performance.
Knowing that the doctors and nurses were returning to Shanghai on Monday, the 87-year-old senior used music to pay homage and gratitude to professionals from Shanghai Zhongshan Hospital.
Formerly a violinist with the Wuhan Philharmonic Orchestra, he played "Meditation" by French composer Jules Massenet while standing next to his hospital bed as he has mostly recovered from novel coronavirus infection, according to a video shot by medics from Zhongshan Hospital.
“I have basically recovered and can think clearly now. Sincere thanks to medics from Shanghai who treated me carefully, especially Dr Liu Kai,” he said to the camera.

Liu is the doctor who enjoyed the sunset with him in a viral photo taken on March 5, when the old man was still seriously ill and bed-ridden.
“Thanks to the Shanghai doctors, now I can play the violin, although not so skilfully. I hope Liu can visit me at my home in Wuhan in the future,” he added.
The heartwarming picture quickly went viral on social media.
Doctor Liu, 27, was among those sent to Wuhan from Shanghai Zhongshan Hospital to join the battle against the virus at its epicenter.
On March 5, Liu and volunteer Gan Junchao wheeled the seriously ill patient who had been hospitalized for about a month to take a CT scan at Renmin Hospital of Wuhan University (east branch).
Liu noticed the sunset as they returned to the ward and suggested they pause to enjoy it. The patient agreed and the volunteer photographed the pair bathed in golden light.
