Cutting-edge medical nano tech venture chooses Ningbo

Dr Shen Ting and her team are among the first batch of innovative professionals under a program carried out by the Ningbo government to attract overseas high-end innovative entrepreneurial teams.

A graduate in automation from Tsinghua University, Shen furthered her studies at Stanford University in the United States where she had a master’s degree in engineering economic system and operational research, a master’s degree in international relations and a PhD in management science and engineering.

Shen is co-founder and CEO of NanoLite Systems, an early stage medical device company in the US developing real-time pathology solutions with innovative micro-chip technologies for cancer diagnostics, surgical guidance and treatment monitoring.

In March, 2012, Shen and her team established Ningbo Nanolite Systems Co Ltd in Hi-tech Industrial Development Zone in Ningbo and decided to bring the cutting-edge technologies back to China.

The company, located in the Ningbo Research and Development Park, has an office area of 200 square meters and is in operation. The company’s main R&D and production venue is still under construction.

According to subsidiary policies, the company will be funded 10 million yuan for the startup of their business and scientific research. The company will also get a guaranteed loan of 10 million yuan or venture capital investment by a fund company depending on the development of the project.

Shen, general manager of the company, says she wants to make NanoLite Systems a high-growth company in China in the field of severe diseases, cancer blood testing in particular, in the next five years and prepare to become a listed company.

Shen was a researcher at the global supply chain of Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 2004 and 2005. Between 2005 and 2008, she was a management consultant with the headquarters of McKinsey & Coin the US where she participated in providing strategic solutions for Fortune 500 companies.

Currently, the company has a staff of nine employees including chairman Zhang Xiaojing, chief researcher Kazunori Hoshino, deputy general manger of operation and manufacturing Jeffrey Shryver and R&D engineer Wang Youming.
