Foreign filmmakers eye China opportunities

FOREIGN film producers are seeking to expand in China, diversifying beyond directly screening in cinemas, industry experts said yesterday at an exhibition, part of the ongoing Shanghai International Film Festival.

A special Belt and Road Pavilion was set up at the exhibition, offering a stage for filmmakers from the countries on the Silk Road route, such as Turkey, Hungary and India.

A special overseas program service office was also set up during the exhibition, offering a fast-track window from the regulator, the State Administration of Press Publication Radio, Film and Television.

Classified and professional film firms also took part, with services from data tracking, analysis and subtitle production to screenplay platforms, representing integration between film and industries such as Big Data.

Douban.com showcased its new film production unit, Feichuan, which offers short-form videos online.
