Asia Games stadium work

The construction of three main stadiums for 2022 Asian Games has started and will be completed by the end of 2020, said Qianjiang Evening News.

All the three stadiums — the main stadium, natatorium and training stadium — will be situated around the lotus-shaped Hangzhou International Expo Center.

The designer team of the main stadium and natatorium comes from Beijing Institute of Architectural Design (Group) Co Ltd, who also designed the Wukesong Culture and Sports Center in Beijing.

The silver-colored, streamlined shape of the main stadium and natatorium resembles a hatched butterfly as Hangzhou is home to the famous “Butterfly Lovers” story in China.

The training stadium will be in the shape of jade cong, which is tube with round inside and square outside. Cong, a ritual object with a history of around 5,100 years, represents the antique of Liangzhu Culture in Zhejiang and Jiangsu provinces.

The main stadium will have 18,000 seats, while the natatorium will have 6,000. The basketball, swimming and diving events will be held in the two stadiums.

The buildings are designed with a lifetime of 100 years.
