‘Going green’ going well on Jiading rail section
The Jiading section of the Shanghai-Beijing high-speed railway is making progress with its green corridor decoration project.
The 810 mu (54 hectares) land lot has completed earthwork shaping and is now in tree planting session, with afforestation for the 2,165 mu area along the rail line set to be completed by next October.
The greening effect is starting to show in Anting on a 250 mu area where illegal parking used to be a problem. “We planted low flowering shrubs for the sake of train safety,” said a worker at site.
“Passengers on a fast travelling train will be able to see different colors of shades when the plants have grown.”
A green view has replaced the illegal buildings on the Nanxiang section too. When the project is done, the 2-kilometer- span will be covered with 8,000 trees including osmanthus and magnolia.
“The design means to show flowers for at least two seasons a year,” a staff member said.
The pavement for the Nanxiang section is different from the common cement surface.
The gravel it used came from the construction ruins after demolition of the illegal structures.
The 7,000 tons of waste was ground down to make a cost-efficient and environment-friendly material, which also proves to be good for drainage.
The Shanghai-Beijing high-speed railway extends to a length of 21 kilometers in Jiading and crosses four towns of Anting, Nanxiang, Waigang and Jiangqiao.
Jiading initiated the greening project in 2015. It has mapped out an area of 347 hectares to turn the grey railway space into a green corridor.
