Savor grapes, 60 species of them, at this festival

The annual Shanghai Malu Grape Festival kicked off in Jiading, providing various activities for visitors. Consumers can buy 60 species of grapes, including some rare ones like the Shine-Muscat.

The grape species, with a fragrance of rose, is hard to plant but it was hugely popular when it made its debut in China’s Hong Kong. Shine-Muscat grapes are grown over 133,400 square meters — or equivalent to the size of 20 standard football fields — in Jiading’s Malu Town, with an output of around 50 tons a year.

In Malu, 25 cooperatives are authorized to use the Malu Grape trademark, with the cultivated area of Malu grapes reaching 3.1 million square meters.

The renovation of a core demonstration area in Malu has been completed, and a 4,000-square-meter intelligent greenhouse has been set up, sheltering Malu grapes from snow disaster, cold spell in late spring and typhoons.

In the Malu Grape Themed Park, visitors to the festival can also join the weekend market and night park activities organized in Malu with the theme of grapes.
