Scientific achievements win top awards
Scientific institutes and individuals in Jading have won 13 top science awards in a national competition. The national science and technology awards are widely considered the top science prizes in China and a total of 280 awards were handed out at a ceremony in Beijing.
“The government should keep focusing on setting up a suitable environment for all parties involved in science and technology innovation,” said Chen Yunzhu, director of the Jiading District Science Commission.
Jiading has set up many professional incubation spaces to pool entrepreneurs, talents, project platforms and funds. One of them, InnoSpring, was set up by the Shanghai Institute of Microsystem and Information Technology. So far a batch of high-tech products have been incubated there, including a 6-axis gyroscope and a 360-degree camera. Similar incubation spaces have also been set up in Anting and Jiading Industrial Park.
“As a private enterprise, we could hardly win any scientific award without the help from Jiading District,” said Su Xianli, of Shanghai ComNav Technology Ltd. The company won a national award with its high-precision navigation technology and application.
Last year, Shanghai Technology Transfer Center of the Chinese Academy of Sciences set up its industrial base in Jiading, attracting state-of-art technologies and some advanced technology and engineering centers.
Jiading District has decided to allocate 6 million yuan (US$946,775) to support 28 projects. “We should learn to be tolerant and allow some projects to fail,” Chen said.
