Top national honor for a civilized district

JIADING District has been listed a National Civilized District in China, becoming the fifth district in Shanghai to receive such an honor.
The National Civilized District list is the top national award of comprehensive civilized standards in China, published every three years.

To qualify for the honor, Jiading began a campaign to dismantle illegal architectures and clean up its rivers. Local residents were motivated to participate in etiquette training, volunteer activities and they selected civilized families and communities to raise awareness of the campaign.

So far, 180,000 people have registered to be volunteers. Thousands of people clean streets every week. And nearly 1,000 volunteer teams have been set up to provide voluntary services.

Jiading also pays a lot attention to public services, aiming to provide a better environment for local residents.

In the past few years, a cluster of landmarks were built in Jiading, including Jiading Stadium, Jiading Library, Shanghai Poly Grand Theater and the Han Tianheng Art Gallery. It is estimated that one more cultural landscape will be completed by 2020 — Haishang Museum Complex, the first museum complex in Shanghai covering 67,000 square meters in total.

With more Metro lines, city-level hospitals and high-quality schools in the district, Jiading is set to attract more people to live in.

In the past 10 years, more than 10,000 people who had studied overseas started work in automobile and medical industries in the district. Eight national-level research institutions moved into the district and more institutions are on their way.
