No effort spared to help the elderly

Senior citizen care can be provided within 15 minutes in Songjiang’s Xinqiao Town in the near future.
A resident surnamed Zhang of the Xinmin residential community suggested the township to improve social services for the elderly during a district radio program.
Qian Feng, head of Xinqiao Town, told the program that every effort was being made to solve senior care problems.
A 6,000-square-meter comprehensive senior care service center is to be built by 2020 which will consist of nursing stations, day care centers, canteens and activity rooms that will provide care services for more than 70,000 residents.
Three standard activity rooms for the elderly will be built up and two will be remodelled in the town this year, while all the activity rooms throughout the town are expected to undergo an upgrade within three years, Qian said.
More canteens for the elderly will make it possible for a 15-minute senior care service in the near future in Xinqiao. One such canteen will be built this year and six will be completed by 2020 to provide meals for senior citizens.
Four neighborhood centers to hold art activities will be founded this year, with an additional 20 set up by 2020.
The town will also train a group of senior care service professionals.
Third-party service providers will be entrusted to run day-care service centers or canteens.
Various social funds and resources will be integrated to provide fiscal support for elderly care and public charities will also be involved.
