Service work is expression of gratitude

MY service work at WISS is just a natural expression of my gratitude to a community that has provided so many opportunities for me and other family members to express themselves creatively. I respect the WISS community and I respect the Xujing community where the school is located. Recently they gave me an award for all the years of work and I accept that they want me to have the award but everything that I do is really just a big thank you to everyone around me. In fact, there are many more volunteers who deserve the same award for being role models for the younger ones to carry the positivity on.

Singing and teaching are my two hobbies; so being a part of the WISS Community Choir and Saturday school teaching is beyond the word “service” but a pathway to indulge myself. Most people associate service work with some kind of hardship but I am definitely lucky to gain life skills through memorable experiences like these.

Even though there are times when I really would like to sleep late on Saturdays but once I am up and at school, I enjoy meeting my students and seeing their beautiful smiles. The sense of accomplishment when they walk away with something new each time is exceptional that I might not be able to gain elsewhere. The warmth that students bring me whenever they greet me with enthusiasm is special.

It is definitely more than an award that I will take away with me even after I graduate from WISS.
