Bold and daring, intuitive and metaphorical

WITHOUT a particular theme, the exhibition “In Between Days VIII” at the Art+ Shanghai Gallery displays the diverse and complex ideas of emerging and established Chinese artists that the gallery has represented in the past year.

Some of the works that have not been previously displayed include an immense graffiti piece created in oil on canvas by Chen Xuanrong, the intricate paper-cut works by Tang Zhengwei and He Jian’s works on rice paper with Chinese pigment.

Viewers can get a mixed feeling of nostalgia and scepticism about modern society.

Also on display are the new phantasmagorical sticker mosaics of Ye Hongxing, bold and polemic conversations in oil on canvas by the Tamen+ collective, as well as expressive and allegorical works by Hu Weiqi.

The works on show are multidirectional and multi-meaningful. Executed in a variety of media, some pieces lean toward the mysterious and subconscious, intuitive and metaphorical, while others demonstrate something more bold and daring.

Date: Through August 29 (closed on Mondays), 10am-7pm

Venue: Art+ Shanghai Gallery

Address: 191 Nansuzhou Rd
