Classic tale of love, jealousy and death makes a demi-pointe

ONE of the best dance troupes in Europe is coming to town with a new version of the world-famous “Carmen.”

The dance drama, based on French composer Georges Bizet’s opera of the same name, depicts the charming and independent gypsy girl Carmen who is killed by her lover Don Jose in a jealous rage. It is a timeless tale about love, jealousy, death and freedom.

The powerful and passionate four-act show combines Spanish flamenco, guitar, tambourine and ballad. The eternal theme of love will be interpreted through the beauty and melancholy of flamenco.

Ever since its establishment in 1985, the Spanish Ballet of Murcia has performed in international arts festivals all around the world. The company has also been engaged in fostering young talented dancers for various forms of Spanish dance.

The choreography, stage effects and dancing skills in “Carmen” have won acclaims from both critics and audiences alike.

According to famous dancer Gao Chengming, the show has innovated the traditional flamenco techniques and styles. Modern technology of lighting and stage effects is also applied to give the classic tale a brand-new look.
