Viennese siblings making it a family affair

THE Eggner Trio are planning to make it a family affair when they bring their mercurial talent to Shanghai later this month.

Founded in Vienna, Austria, 21 years ago, by three brothers — Georg Eggner (violin), Florian Eggner (cello) and Christoph Eggner (piano) — the trio have won several major international awards, including the prestigious International Brahms Competition in 1999 and the Melbourne International Chamber Competition in 2003.

They have received many invitations from world-class venues, such as the Wigmore Hall in London and the Royal Concertgebouw in Amsterdam.

The recordings produced by Live Classics, “Beethoven Trio in D Makjor Op. 70 No. 1 (Ghost Trio)” and “Archduke Trio in B-flat Major Op. 97,” were awarded the Best Recording 2008 by Klassiek Centraal.

Having performed throughout Europe, Japan, Argentina, Uruguay, the United States, New Zealand and Australia, the talented siblings are to present three masterpieces in Shanghai composed by Beethoven and Schubert.

Georg will perform on a violin made by Giovanni Pistucci in 1895, with Florian on a cello of Carl Richter in 1907.
