A love of travel makes for the ideal host

Zhu Yanbin

Nationality: Chinese

Profession/title: General manager of Hangzhou West Lake State Guesthouse

How often do you travel?

It’s not fixed. I just go as I feel like.

Favorite traveling style?

Do as I like — just for ease and pleasure.

Q: What do you always do after returning from a trip?

A: Travel can relax my body and mind. Once I come back, I gear myself to work.

Q: What do you always search for during a trip?

A: What I care most are the unique features of the destination. Other than that, the hotel must be great.

Q: What do you always pack?

A: I don’t think there’s anything special. An interesting book, a bank card and a mobile phone are enough.

Q: What is your preferred airline?

A: Air China.

Q: How do you get over jet leg?

A: That is not a problem for me.

Q: What are your favorite hotels? What makes these hotels so memorable?

A: There is a New Zealand hotel, located at a popular volcanic destination. I have enjoyed the volcano spring with my friends while talking about interesting things.

Q: What do you value most when choosing a hotel?

A: My main concerns are the environment and service. I hope to experience local customs through the hotel.

Q: What hotels do you look forward to staying at in the future?

A: The hotel should be able to help the guest become calm, be relaxed and undisturbed.

And, at the same time, it should meet the needs of the guests.

Q: Recommend one of your favorite destinations. Why is it so special?

A: Hangzhou has always been my favorite. The essence of its beauty lies in the West Lake.

It is of moderate size. So, too, the mountains around Hangzhou.

The green mountains, clear waters and the people together are what you should truly understand about the beauty of jiangnan, or region south of the Yangtze River.

Q: What do you do upon arriving at a destination?

A: I always get prepared before departure, and then enjoy the unhurried travel.

My purpose is to have a rest. So I prefer experiential travel.

Q: Where are you planning to go next and why?

A: I have no clear destination in the near future.

However, in the long run, I would like to travel around the country with my wife.

Q: What’s the strangest request a guest has made at your hotel?

A: In my opinion, guests’ requests differ. But they are all normal and reasonable.

To meet our guests’ endless requests, our service should be endless too.

This is exactly what West Lake State Guesthouse is doing now — striving to do better than our best.

The path is long and bumpy; but our faith is consistent. I always tell myself: “Our guests’ satisfaction is my greatest wish!”
