72-hour air quality forecast starts from Monday

SHANGHAI'S current 48-hour air-quality forecast will be extended to 72 hours from Monday, the Shanghai Environmental Monitoring Center said today.

The current 48-hour forecast, which was issued on June 5 last year, includes both air quality index and main pollutants’ concentration. Released at around 5pm daily, it forecasts the air quality of five periods - that night, the next morning, the next afternoon, next night and the third day daytime.

After the upgrade, an extra period - the fourth day daytime - will be added to the system and the forecast for each period will continue to cover the indexes of air quality and main pollutants.

The forecast's release will still be available at about 5pm on the center’s official site, microblog, WeChat public account, smartphone app, radio and television and other public platforms.
