Outlander honored best foreign TV series award

AMERICAN series "Outlander" received the Best Foreign TV Series/Serial award as the 23rd Shanghai TV Festival concluded tonight with a star-studded ceremony at the Shanghai Oriental Art Center.

The series tells a story of a married combat nurse from 1945 who is mysteriously swept back in time to 1743 where she is forced to marry a chivalrous and romantic young Scottish warrior.

German production "Redemption Road" won the Best Foreign TV Film/Miniseries award. Set to the backdrop of World War II, the miniseries is a touching story about the reunion of a Jewish family.

Domestic series "The Good Fellas" took the Best Chinese TV series award. It revolves around a group of unknown soldiers who fight against the Japanese invaders during China's war against Japan's aggression.

Zhang Yi and Yin Tao were honored the best actor and actress for vivid depiction of a couple of Yiwu businessman who faces great hardship to create an enterprise miracle in "Feather Flies to the Sky."

According to Zhang, a former prisoner told him that the series inspired him a lot and the story ignited his enthusiasm for a brand new life. Zhang hopes to see more outstanding Chinese series focusing on real-life stories.

"The award reminds me of my duty as an actress  - doing my best and respecting our audiences," Yin said.

Chinese directors Shen Yan and Liu Haibo won the best director award for the family drama "Chinese Style Relationship." Zhang Lei also scooped the Best Screenplay award for the imaginative script of the drama.

American productions "TIME: The Kalif Browder Story" and "Farmer/Veteran" respectively won the Best Documentary Series award and Best Documentary award.

Japanese animated series "The Dragon Dentist" received the Best Animation award.

The Best Seasonal Variety Program went to "The Reader I." Dong Qing, producer of the program said that as a media worker, she should take her responsibility to preserve and innovate Chinese culture.
