5 bodies recovered, 5 still missing
FIVE bodies have been found and five crew members remain missing one day after a ship sank in a collision accident near Wusongkou Port.
Rescue work has been on-going since the sunken ship, the Shunqiang, reported 10 crew members missing on Sunday morning.
According to Shanghai Maritime Bureau, the first body was found by a rescue diver yesterday afternoon.
By 5pm, five bodies had been found — three were underwater and two were floating on the water surface.
Sixteen rescue boats, salvage ships and maritime patrol vessels are still searching for the missing crew.
The Shunqiang, which was loaded with 3,000 tons of steel roll and 13 crew members, collided with another vessel near the port at about 1:30am on Sunday.
Three crew were saved immediately after the collision.
The ship was heading towards Guangzhou, Guangdong Province, from Nanjing, Jiangsu Province.
