A world of fun at tourism festival

DOZENS of attractions across the city will offer half-price discounts on admission between September 15 and 21 as part of the annual Shanghai Tourism Festival, the organizers said yesterday.

A total of 75 attractions will participate, up 10 percent from last year, including Shanghai Disney Resort and the Huangpu River cruise tour, according to the Shanghai Tourism Administration.

This year’s festival kicks off on Huaihai Road M. on the night of September 15 with a parade feature 25 floats and 35 teams of performers from home and abroad. Making their debut in this year’s parade will be performers from Ecuador and Peru, as well as floats representing the tourism industries of the EU and Quebec.

The event will also include a cycling festival, a watertown wedding, a music festival and a beer festival, the administration announced yesterday.

The Zhujiajiao watertown in Qingpu District will host a music festival showcasing 25 bands between September 22 and 24.

Five couples will participate in a traditional wedding ceremony in Fengjing watertown in Jinshan District in late September, allowing visitors and participants to experience the traditional wedding rituals of the ancient town.

A beer festival will feature authentic Bavarian brew, cuisine and folk decorations in Changning District in mid September. Musical acts from Munich will also perform.

A running event will take place at the Shanghai Disney Resort and a sparkling wine festival will be held at Jing’an Park, both in mid September.

A multilingual tourism app called “Shanghai quality life” will be launched during the festival. The festival will close on October 6.
