Japan firm recalls rice cookers

THE Shanghai branch of Japan’s Tiger Corp has initiated a recall involving more than 29,000 imported IH rice cookers sold on the Chinese mainland due to safety hazards, China’s top quality watchdog said yesterday.

The recall plan involves 29,245 rice cookers. The recall started on Monday for models JKT-S18C, JKT-S10C, JKT-A18C, JKT-A10C, JKT-B18C and JKT-B10C manufactured in Japan between July 21, 2014, and September 20 this year, according to the General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine.

The electric cookers were found to be defective, with their grounding protection failing to function if the power-line fixture device breaks or separates from the body, posing possible risks of electric shock, the company said.

Affected consumers can dial 400-920-9388, the recall service hotline of the company, for details.
