THREE people died and six others were injured in an incident which took place in Pudong on Wednesday evening, police said yesterday.

One of those dead was the alleged attacker, a 44-year-old man suranmed Huang.

Pudong police received a report at about 8:10pm on Wednesday that a man was attacking people with a knife in a residential complex on Gonghua Road, Caolu Town.

A 60-year-old woman was confirmed dead and six injured were rushed to hospital when police arrived on the scene, police said.

One of the injured, a 64-year-old man, later died in hospital.

As police searched for Huang, he appeared from a residential building and started wielding a knife at police and residents.

Huang was subdued by police and residents, with one officer injured in the process.

Huang was also injured, but police would not comment when asked how.

Huang was taken to hospital and later died of his injuries.

None of the survivors were critically injured, police said. Their investigation is still underway. Huang, unemployed, was said to be a loner with a bad temper who often quarrelled with neighbors, according to the police.
