Water check near expo venue
SHANGHAI Water Authority will inspect water quality around National Exhibition and Convention Center in Qingpu District, an area stretching over 86 square kilometers.
The center is the venue for the China International Import Expo to be held in November.
Bai Tinghui, head of the body, said the inspection was part of the campaign to improve the water quality and water landscape in the area.
“The essential marker is whether residents living around it feel like getting closer to the water or not,” Bai said.
He said there were still issues that concern him, mainly about the mixing of rainwater and wastewater that could potentially hurt not only the expo site but the entire city altogether.
He said the city had already fixed about 7,000 places where rainwater seeped into wastewater pipes.
Bai said Shanghai has given charge to officials to monitor different water zones like creeks, rivers and lakes. The division of work was a more efficient way to carry out policies and has helped in rooting out major water concerns, he said.
