Advisers confident of a bright future

CHINA’S political advisers whole-heartedly uphold the Communist Party’s Central Committee with Xi Jinping as its core, top political adviser Yu Zhengsheng said yesterday.
Yu was speaking at the closing meeting of the fifth session of the 12th Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference National Committee.
Yu, its chairman, said advisers were inspired by the achievements of the Party and the nation since the Party’s 18th National Congress in 2012.
“Political advisers are full of confidence in the bright prospect of the great cause of socialism with Chinese characteristics,” Yu said, hailing this year’s session as a success in upholding democracy, gathering consensus and boosting solidarity.
Since the Party’s 18th National Congress, the Central Committee with Xi as its core had united and led Chinese people of all ethnic groups to promote the country’s overall approach to building socialism with Chinese characteristics, pushing forward coordinated economic, political, cultural, social and ecological progress, he said.
Efforts had been made to promote the “four comprehensives” — to comprehensively build a moderately prosperous society, deepen reform, advance the rule of law and strictly govern the Party.
Noting that the 19th National Congress of the Party will be held in the second half of this year, Yu called on political advisers to stick to the Party leadership more consciously, unite around the Central Committee with Xi as the core more closely, and implement decisions and policies made by the Central Committee more resolutely.
Political advisers should offer more of their insights and contribute to economic and social development, and help improve people’s well-being, Yu said, adding that they must also strengthen self-discipline.
Party and state leaders Xi, Li Keqiang, Zhang Dejiang, Liu Yunshan, Wang Qishan and Zhang Gaoli were among those attending the meeting at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing.
A resolution adopted at the meeting underscored the theme of “seeking progress while maintaining stability,” calling for efforts to push forward the work of the Party and the state in various sectors.
It said efforts will be made to implement new development concepts, promote supply-side structural reform, improve people’s livelihoods and ensure all citizens share equally in the fruits of reform.
Also approved yesterday were reports on the work of the Standing Committee of the 12th National Committee of the CPPCC over the past year, and on proposals submitted by National Committee members to the annual session this year.
National political advisers submitted 5,769 proposals over the past year with 4,279 formalized after review and 1,159 listed as opinions and suggestions. Some proposals were combined with other proposals or withdrawn.
Of the total, 1,718 centered on economic affairs and 322 on political issues. There were also 1,344 proposals on social affairs and 460 on cultural progress.
As of February 20, 99.84 percent of the proposals had been dealt with by relevant departments.
