A Chinese aircraft carrier is steaming toward Hong Kong for tomorrow’s 20th anniversary celebrations.
The defense ministry said the Liaoning, which left Qingdao on Sunday, was part of a flotilla on a “routine training mission.”
The former Soviet ship, built nearly 30 years ago and commissioned in 2012, will take part in activities marking the 20th anniversary of the Chinese People’s Liberation Army entering the city, defense ministry spokesman Wu Qian said.
The PLA has a garrison in central Hong Kong and is responsible for defending the city.
