CHINESE insurers said yesterday they would compensate clients who caught swine flu as the epidemic fear spread across the world.

AIG General Insurance Company China Limited clients with travel insurance will be compensated if they catch swine flu when traveling abroad. The travel insurance will cover all the medical fees.

"The diseases that are clearly specified would not be covered. Others, such as bird flu or swine flu, would usually be compensated," said Chen Lixiao, a manager with the Beijing branch of AIG General Insurance Company China Limited.

He said they made the declarations to dispel worries from clients.
