Counterfeiters busted in crackdown

CHINA'S military and police confiscated thousands of counterfeit military vehicle plates in the latest effort to fight the abuse of military identities, police said yesterday.

In a series of raids from June 8 to 10, 37 suspects were arrested and 250 fake military license plates as well as 2,346 unfinished plates were seized in south China's Guangdong Province and the eastern Zhe°?jiang Province.

Another 1,481 counterfeit driving licenses and military IDs were seized.

This year alone, gangs have counterfeited 3,000 armed-police plates, 5,000 military plates and 10,000 civilian ones and sold them in 20 provinces, officials said.

Cars with military plates are exempt from road tolls and parking fees.
