Hamburgers and French fries - situation normal for man in quarantine

A CHILEAN man is enjoying his favorite hamburgers, French fries, Coke and other Western food as normal, despite being confined in downtown Shanghai for H1N1 flu observation.

The man is under observation because his roommate, a Panama woman, was traveling on the same flight from Mexico to Shanghai on April 30 as the Mexican patient who was later diagnosed as suffering from the flu in Hong Kong, today's Oriental Morning Post reported.

The woman is under observation at a hotel in suburban Nanhui District.

Two protected medical staff and two community medical workers arrived at their residence in Changning District on the night of May 2 after learning about the Hong Kong case, the report said.

The woman agreed to leave her home for the Nanhui hotel but the man is being confined to his home.

Neighborhood committee officials supply meals to him during the confinement.

Yesterday the man said he would like to dine out on Western food so officials bought him hamburgers, French fries and coke. They later supplied milk, tomato, eggs and cucumbers.

Officials deliver the meals twice a day when community medical workers visit to take his temperature.
