Police insist boy's death an accident

POLICE have rejected a plea by the parents of a 13-year-old boy found dead hanging from the roof at his home, dressed in his sister's swimsuit and skirt, to reopen the case.

Chongqing police said they had ruled out possibility of murder or suicide after investigation. The boy, Kuang Zhijun, who died in November, was definitely determined to have been killed accidentally, the Chongqing Morning Post reported today.

The parents also said they were to sue the boy's boarding school for negligence as it did not inform them that the boy had not been at school for four days, according to the report.

The boy's father, Kuang Jilu, told the newspaper the police said they could not explain why the boy was killed and dressed the way he was but implied that he might have died while playing a game.

"What kind of game would make my son put on his sister's swimming suit and skirt, tie up the hands and feet professionally, and hang himself from the roof?" he said.

Kuang Jilu said he and his wife Gu Denghui usually lived in downtown Chongqing where they worked during the week. He discovered the tragedy when he went home on November 5.

Kuang Jilu said he sent his son to a boarding school as he was depending on the school to protect him, yet the school did not tell them their son was missing from school.

The principal of the victim's school, surnamed Gan, said he tried to call the boy's parents but could not reach them. Gan said that more than 30 students did not attend class that week because of flu.

Gan said the school would take all the responsibility if a court ruled it was the school's fault Kuang died.
