Sex scandal photo tech jailed

A HONG Kong computer technician has been sentenced eight months and 15 days in jail today for illegally possessing pictures of actor Edison Chen having sex with female celebrities.

A Hong Kong magistrate's court found Sze Ho-chun, 24, guilty and delivered the sentence today. Sze was not allowed bail and ordered to begin his jail term immediately.

Though there was not enough evidence to show Sze had distributed Chen's photos over the Internet, he had obtained the photos without his client Chen's agreement, said Chief Magistrate Tong Man.

Tong said Sze had breached the trust of his employer in stealing the images of Edison Chen with various local female celebrities. He said the computer technician had put material belonging to other people at risk and not considered their feelings.

Chen reportedly had his computer repaired at the computer store Sze worked for. Though he claimed he had deleted his private intimate photographs, encrypted data from the hard drive of his computer was later obtained by store staff, including Sze, and illegally distributed over the Internet.

Two of Sze's customers testified at earlier court hearings that Sze had copied the photos onto compact discs and saved them in an online database.

On February 12, 2008, Hong Kong police arrested 10 people, including Sze, in connection with the distribution of the photos, but the distributor, dubbed "Killer" has never been arrested.
